General Windows information

What version of Windows is my computer using?

Sometimes, like when downloading new softwares, or checking for compatibility with web browsers, it's important to know which version of Windows a computer is running. While the exact appearance will vary between the different versions, generally you can learn what version you have the following way:

  1. Go to your computer's settings.
    • You can do this by hitting the Windows key on your keyboard, or clicking the start menu button (which will generally appear as a windows icon in the bottom corner). Then select where it says "settings". (In some older versions, you may have to click on "Control Panel" before you get to settings.)
  2. Once in settings, go to the System settings.
  3. Go to the "about" section. This will show your version of Windows (under "Window Specifications"), as well as the technical specifications of your computer.
