The digital library created by the Biblioteque nationale de France/National Library of France through its program of mass digitization. Founded in 1977 the site offers more than 1.7 million documents including books, journals, newspapers, images, maps, manuscripts and sound recordings. Emphasis is on the cultural history of France. Text is chiefly French with an interface in English as well as Spanish, Portuguese and German.
