Printing Troubleshooting

Why Can't I Print?

  1. Did you just buy your copy card?
When you insert your CopyGuard card into the print server card reader, it will tell you how much money you have on the card. If it says you have $0.00 on your card and you just bought it, you must have not reinserted the card after it was dispensed to load your money on it. Run back to the card vending machine where you purchased the card, and reinsert it at the big yellow arrow before someone else takes your money. The machine may still be waiting for you to reinsert your card.

  2. Are you inserting your copy card into the reader for the print server or the copier?
To print you want to insert your copy card into the card reader closest to the print server keyboard and monitor, not in the card reader on the printer/copier.

  3. Is the printer/copier in sleep mode?
If the touch screen on the printer/copier screen is black and only the start key light is illuminated, the printer/copier is in sleep mode. Touch any of the buttons on the panel to begin the warm up cycle. Please wait 4 minutes while the cycle completes. You can verify that the printer/copier is in the warm up cycle if you insert a CopyGuard card with money on it into the photocopying card reader. The printer will not take the money off your card unless you press the start key. If you do press the start key, you will get a photocopy of the inside of the copier lid and $0.10 will be deducted from your card.

  4. Is the "Jobs" light on?

    • Yes: When the "jobs" light is illuminated the printer has received your print jobs and queued them to print. If nothing seems to be happening, insert a CopyGuard card with money on it into the photocopying card reader. This will clear the "insert card counter" message on the touch screen panel so you can read the machine's status. If the touch panel displays instructions, follow them. If it tells you the machine is warming up, wait 4 minutes. Only press the start key (with your CopyGuard card in the card reader) if the touch screen tells you to! If you press the key when the touch screen does not instruct you to, you will be charged $0.10 for a photocopy of the inside of the photocopier lid.
    • No: Use the power switch on the right side of the copier to turn the copier/printer off and then back on. Wait 4 minutes for the copier to warm back up. If the "Jobs" light is on when you flip the power switch, the printer will dump your print jobs and you will lose your money. If the library is open, ask for help at the Circulation or Reference Desk before you do this.
