The Eden-Webster Library System includes the Luhr Library at Eden Theological Seminary and the Emerson Library at Webster University. Materials by Subject Area
The library catalog lists all the books, periodicals, and media materials available at the libraries. Users can do basic searches by author, title, subject, and can also search selected other fields such as call number, publisher, etc.. All materials on in-house reserve for individual classes are listed as well.
Much of the religion and theology collection is located at the Luhr Library on the Eden Theological Seminary campus, with the rest of the collection in other subject areas available at the Emerson Library at Webster University. There are exceptions to this rule, however, so we recommend you check in the library catalog for the specific items you want. In the catalog the library location for each book, video, or periodical is provided.
Materials by Call Number
The libraries use the Library of Congress Classification System to arrange the books on the shelves. The call number for a book will begin with a letter or letters representing one of the following broad subject areas:
- A--General works (e.g. encyclopedias)
- B--Philosophy, Psychology, and Religion
- C--Auxiliary sciences (e.g. biography, genealogy)
- D--History (except America)
- E - F--History of the Americas (Missouri history: F 461-475)
- G--Geography, Anthropology, Folklore, Dance, Sports
- H - HJ--Social Sciences (general), Economics and Business
- HM - HX--Sociology, Marriage and Family, Criminal Justice
- J--Political Science
- K--Law (U.S. law: KF; Missouri law: KFM 7800-8399)
- L--Education
- M--Music
- N--Fine Arts
- P--Philology and Literature
- P - PA--Philology and Classical Literature
- PB - PH-- Modern European Languages
- PJ - PM--Languages and Literatures of Asia, Africa, Oceania, America; Mixed Languages; Artificial Languages
