Technical Note for Users of the Database of Recorded American Music
DRAM (The Database of Recorded American Music) has some technical requirements that you may want to be aware of when using the database. Here is some information from the vendor about software requirements (this is also available in the database from the "Help" link):
A small number of users accessing DRAM have encountered difficulties accessing DRAM's music files, or have reported skips, pops and other interruptions to the music while streaming. If you experience difficulties:
- Please verify you are using QuickTime 6.5.2 (Mac) or QuickTime 7.0 (PC) or higher and that QuickTime has been set as your default media player for *.sml and *.smil file types.
- Review and, if necessary, adjust the Streaming Transport preference settings in your installation of QuickTime.
- Log out of DRAM
- Close the browser you have been using to access the system
- Launch QuickTime player
- From the Edit pull-down menu, select Preferences > QuickTime Preferences
- Select the Advanced tab
- De-select Automatic setup by going to the Custom menu
- Make sure HTTP is selected instead of UDP
You will be required to log into DRAM again in order to test streaming capabilities with these new preferences.
