Help With the Online/Full-text Databases

Gaining Access to the Online/Full-text Databases

Access to the subscription databases from Passports is available to current Webster U. or Eden Theological Seminary students, faculty, or staff. Webster students, faculty, and staff use their Webster I.D.# for access. Eden faculty and staff should contact the library at (314) 968-5994 (toll-free 800-985-4279) or via electronic mail at docdel@webster.edu.

Problems With Connecting to the Databases

If you have problems accessing any of the online/full-text databases, contact the library at docdel@webster.edu or call (314) 968-5994 (toll-free 800-985-4279). The library recommends Netscape or Internet Explorer software for use with these databases.

Things to Check Before You Call:

  • Is your number correct? If you are a Webster student, faculty member, or staff member, make sure you are entering your i.d. number (not your Social Security number!). Remember that you must be currently enrolled to access the databases.
  • Are cookies enabled in your browser? Some databases require you to accept a "cookie", a small file that the database creates on your hard drive. Consult your web browser manual or internet service provider for information on how to set your computer to do so. For more information, visit Cookie Central.
  • Are you using a web browser offered by an Internet provider such as America Online? Proprietary browsers might not be fully compatible with the interactive features of Passports. Problems are usually solved by switching to Netscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Instructions for downloading these software packages are given on our Internet Help page.
  • Are you behind a firewall? Some firewall software may interfere with access. Check with your company's computer support department for assistance or the manual and tech support available with any home firewall software.

Questions on Using Databases for Research

If you have questions concerning which databases to use for your search, contact the Reference Department at (314) 968-6950 (800-985-4279) or use our Ask a Librarian service (current Webster/Eden faculty, students, staff only).
