May Queens

May Day used to be an annual celebration on the main campus. As part of the festivities, students would elect a queen and her court. Starting in 1963, the ceremony was held at a local hotel in conjunction with a spring dance. In 1966, the student newspaper reported that the tradition was discontinued because of the cost, lack of interest, and the fact that the position served no real purpose.
