1940s

  • 1945: A tanker ship, the S.S. Webster Victory, was launched from Baltimore, Maryland. The ship was named after Webster College in recognition of the institution's support of the war effort through the sale of war bonds.
  • 1947: The first African-American students enrolled at Webster.
  • 1948: President George Donovan took a leave of absence to assist with the rebuilding effort in Germany after World War II. Sister Mariella Collins became acting president.
