Commencement Locations

Commencement was held on the main campus in St. Louis through 1984. In the early years, the event was held inside with a brief ceremonial planting of the ivy conducted outdoors. The June 1938 issue of the Lorettine reports that 1938 marked the first time graduation was outside on the main campus grounds (The Lorettine, vol. 32, no. 4, June 1938, pp. 177-179). Later everything moved indoors into the new Loretto Hilton Center which opened in 1966. Eventually larger spaces were needed to accomodate the students and their guests and the ceremony moved to a number of venues around St. Louis. Locations used throughout history are:
