In early 2004, Webster University began the process of applying for permits to build new dormitories. These facilities were badly needed to accommodate the growing demand for residential housing. The original plan was to build at the corner of Catalina and Big Bend Boulevard on the western edge of campus. Local residents, however, opposed that location, forcing the university to move the dormitories to along Edgar Road south of Garden Avenue.
